Students from across the nation today are completing a five-day program in Estill Voice Training at California University of Pennsylvania.

This is the 10th year that Cal U has offered training in vocal techniques designed to make one’s voice clearer, more powerful and more versatile while preventing damage and maintaining vocal health.

The program is designed for singers, actors and public speakers who rely on the voice for their livelihood, as well as vocal coaches, drama instructors, speech-language pathologists and other vocal health professionals.

Classes are taught by Estill Voice Training instructors and by faculty from California’s Department of Music and Theatre who are Estill Certified Master Teachers.

Estill courses at Cal U

This summer Cal U offered two Estill Voice Training courses:

Level One: Figures for Voice™ teaches techniques that can give your voice added strength, clarity and stamina. Students learned to control the vocal structures that influence voice quality and employed exercises that that provide new vocal options for all styles of speaking and singing.

Level Two: Figure Combinations for Six Voice Qualities™ combines the figures from level one to produce six voice qualities:

  • Speech.
  • Falsetto.
  • Sob.
  • Twang.
  • Opera.
  • Belting.

Students gained a clear understanding of the voice’s limitless possibilities, and learn how to keep it vibrant and healthy. Students practice the skills in small group sessions, and there is ample time for questions, discussion and work on individual repertoire or case studies.d
