May 21, 2013 - No Vulcan Flyer Service for Summer

There will be no Vulcan Flyer shuttle services during the summer. Service will resume at the start of the fall 2013 semester. The Mid Mon Valley Transit will be servicing campus. Visit http://www.mmvta.com/index.htm for details. 

March 29 , 2013 - No Vulcan Flyer Service March 31 or April 1. 

There will be no Vulcan Flyer service on March 31 or April 1 due to the upcoming holiday. Service will operate on March 29 from 8 a.m.-7 p.m. and on March 30 from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Regular operation will resume on April 2. 

Dec. 13 , 2012 - No Vulcan Flyer Service over Winter Break

Vulcan Flyer Service will end December 15 at 3pm and resume January 24, 2013.  There will be NO Service during the Winter Break.

Dec. 4 , 2012 - Important Parking Permit Dates

Permit renewals for Spring Semester begin Nov. 26 through Dec. 14, 2012.  Go on-line and renew your existing permit.

Graduating seniors should return parking permits beginning Dec. 10–14 to avoid academic holds, temporary permit will be issued if needed.

Waitlist permit sale scheduled for Jan. 7–Feb. 1, 2013 Students may charge to their student account during this time.

Open sale for remaining permits available Jan. 28 – Feb. 1, 2013.

Permits purchased after Feb. 1, 2013 must use cash, check or credit card only.

Homecoming Parade Route and Parking

Visitors who wish to park on campus while attending Homecoming events may park in Lot 4 (the River Lot) or use the Vulcan Garage, where parking will be free from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday.

On Saturday, these road closures will be in effect:

  • Third Street will be closed on campus beginning at 7 a.m.
  • Hickory Street will be closed from Sixth Street to Third Street starting at 7 a.m. 

Parade participants can access Lot 4 (the River Lot) via Green Street and Second Street. The River Lot also will be available, via Second Street, to the campus community, alumni and Homecoming guests. 

Some parking lot changes also will be in effect:

  • Lot 21 will be closed to traffic on Saturday in order to host family activities.
  • Lot 11 will be used for the Homecoming Queen’s court and parade vehicles.
  • Lot 2 will be open to permit holders and those attending the President’s Circle Brunch. 

The Vulcan Flyer shuttle will operate until 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Service will resume immediately after the parade, when the shuttle stops at Booker Towers to take fans to the football game at Adamson Stadium.

Also on Saturday, no parking will be permitted from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on Second Street (200 to 500 blocks), Third Street (200 and 400 blocks) and Union Street (200 block). Vehicles parked along the parade routes will receive tickets from California Borough Police beginning at 9 a.m. After 10 a.m., vehicles parked along the route will be towed.

Sept. 5, 2012 - Vulcan Flyer Service Extended

Starting Sept. 8, Vulcan Flyer hours of operation will be extended. Vulcan Flyesr will run from 7 a.m.-midnight Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-11 p.m. Saturdays and 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Sundays. View shuttle details

July 17, 2012 - Mid-Mon Valley Park and Ride Closure

The Mid-Mon Valley Park And Ride across from Vulcan Village will be closed July 17-19 because of necessary maintenance. Contact the Office of Parking and Transportation at 724-938-4677 with any questions. 

June 29, 2012 - Free Staff Parking Begins July 2

Cal U staff and other non-faculty employees now have the option to park in one of 200 free spaces on campus. Employees must register to participate, and parking is on a first come, first served basis. Read more

June 6, 2012 - Renew Your Parking Permits Now

Faculty and staff fiscal (12 month) permit holders can now renew their parking permits for the upcoming 2012-2013 term.

To renew your permit, visit the parking registration page and log in to your account.

The parking permit renewal period will end June 30. If you require assistance, please contact the Office of Parking and Transportation at 724-938-4677.

Also, anyone parking on campus this summer must obtain or purchase a summer decal available in the Office of Parking and Transportation located in Room 123, Manderino Library. This decal is free of charge to anyone renewing a fiscal (12 month) permit.

Failure to renew your permit will result in deactivation of the permit, and you will be cited for using an expired permit.

If you no longer need your parking permit, please return it to the Department of Parking and Transportation.  

May 22, 2012 - No Vulcan Flyer Service May 28, New Summer Hours

There will be no Vulcan Flyer Service on May 28 due to the holiday. Summer hours are 5:30 a.m.-11:30 p.m. Monday through Friday with NO weekend service. 

April 17, 2012 - Parking Renewal Period Open for Students

All students with Semester and Academic permits may renew their parking permits until May 12. Fiscal year permit renewal for staff will begin June 1. All incoming freshman can purchase a LOT 24 permit through the parking website once they have received their Cal U e-mail address and password to register their parking account. 

Jan. 20, 2012 - On Campus Shuttle Adds Weekend Hours

The On Campus Shuttle is now operating on the weekends from noon-8 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday. The shuttle will continue to operate from 7 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Dec. 1, 2011 - Commencement Parking

Parking for undergraduates, graduates and their families will be available in the River Lot adjacent to the new Convocation Center. Free shuttle service will be available during Undergraduate Commencement to take guests from the Beazel Street crossing to the front of Hamer Hall. View parking maps.

Nov. 28, 2011 - Parking Permit Renewal Now Under Way

The renewal period for Spring semester parking permits is now under way. Students who wish to continue parking on campus must renew their permits before Dec. 23. Access your parking account now.

Nov. 15, 2011 - No Vulcan Flyer Service on Thanksgiving, Nov. 24

There will be NO Vulcan Flyer service on Nov. 24 for the Thanksgiving holiday. Service will run from 5:30 a.m.-11:30 p.m. Nov. 23, Nov. 25 and Nov. 26. Service will run from 8 a.m.-11 p.m. on Nov. 27.

July 29, 2011 - University Avenue Now One-Way Street

University Avenue has been permanently restricted to one-way traffic between Third Street and Second Street, in front of Old Main. A portion of Second Street, in front of Eberly Science and Technology Center, now is a one-way street, as well. View more details and a route map.

July 6, 2011 - Lot 9 Is Temporarily Closed

Due to the construction at the Hamer Railroad crossing, parking lot 9 will be temporarily closed for approximately 4-6 weeks. Lot 9 permit holders will need to relocate their vehicles to lot 8 or lot 7 during this time. Please display your lot 9 permit to avoid citation.

June 2, 2011 - Vulcan Flyer Temporary Route Change

The Vulcan Flyer will temporarily change its route and stops June 2-3 because of anticipated construction. Drop-off and pickup locations will be at East Alley and Third Street instead of Booker Towers, and at the entrance to Lot 17 on Hickory Street instead of the Zipcar location.

May 23, 2011 - Lot 14 Closes May 23 - Aug. 5

Lot 14, located behind Residence Hall C, will be closed May 23 – Aug. 5 to accommodate construction of the Loop Road.

All Lot 14 and Lot 12 permit holders may park in Lot 15 during this time.

If you need to access Gallagher Hall, follow posted detour signs through the upper portion of Lot 15.

March 14, 2011 - Campus Shuttle Extends Service

Beginning March 14, the on-campus shuttle will be extending its service and run Monday through Friday from 6 a.m.-9:30 p.m. Click here for a map of the campus shuttle locations.

March 7, 2011 - Shuttle Service for Fence Extention Near Morgan Hall

The fence at the end of the River Parking LOT 4 along the railroad tracks near Morgan Hall is being extended so that no pedestrians can cross the railroad tracks. Norfolk Southern Railroad has requested that the fence be installed due to safety reasons. Anyone utilizing the River Parking LOT 4 and needing access to Morgan or Gallagher Hall can utilize the shuttle service that is being provided, or park near the Hamer Railroad crossing and walk to Morgan or Gallagher. The River Lot shuttle provides drop-off at LOT 11 behind Gallagher.

March 2, 2011 - Vulcan Flyer and Campus Shuttle Spring Break Hours

Vulcan Flyer service will remain in place during spring break, running from 5 a.m.-11:30 p.m. In addition, the on-campus shuttle service also will operate under normal hours from 6 a.m.–6 p.m.

Jan 31, 2011 - Open Permit Sale

There will be an open permit sale for LOT 4 and LOT 24 February 1-4th. If you still need parking, visit the Parking and Transportation Office located in Manderino, room 123 between 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Permits may be purchased with cash, check or credit. You may no longer charge to your student account for this semester.

Jan 11, 2011 - Campus Shuttle

Beginning Jan. 18, a campus shuttle will run Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m. at various stops on main campus. Please reference the campus shuttle map for stops. To find out when the next shuttle is arriving, please visit www.nextbus.com and select "campus loop" to receive arrival times.

Jan. 3, 2011 - LOT 12 Closure

Please be advised that LOT 12 will be closed effective immediately to accommodate for continued construction of the campus loop road and new parking lot areas.

All LOT 12 permit holders will be able to park in LOT 14. LOT 12 RESERVED permit holders have been relocated to the lower portion of LOT 15. Please view the revised LOT 15 map. The pink shaded areas will have signs specifically for LOT 12 Reserved permit holders.

Also, an on-campus shuttle will begin on Jan. 17 and have a pick up location at the entrance to LOT 14 and also go to LOT 11 Gallagher Hall. This on-campus shuttle will run M-F from 6:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.

Thank you for your patience as we make continued improvements to the main campus transportation network.

Nov. 19, 2010 - Semester Permit Renewals

Semester Permit Renewals are underway from Nov. 19 - Dec. 10. Individuals who currently have a Fall Parking permit will receive an e-mail letter directing them to renew their permit in their parking account. For those who will not be renewing their permit because of graduation may begin to turn their permits in Dec. 13-17.

Nov. 19, 2010 - River Lot Shuttle Modified Hours of Operation

The River Lot shuttle has modified its hours of operation to 7-11 a.m. and 1-4:30 p.m. Click here for a route map.

Oct. 28, 2010 - River Shuttle

In accordance with the agreements between the Public Utility Commission, Norfolk Southern Railroad and the University please be advised that effective Nov. 1. Norfolk Southern Railroad will be permanently closing the Third Street railroad crossing into LOT 4 (River lot) near Morgan Hall to all vehicular and pedestrian traffic. Additional ADA parking spaces have been designated behind Gallagher Hall to replace the ones near Morgan Hall that will be inaccessible once this railroad crossing closes. All persons utilizing LOT 4 (River lot) will have access via the Hamer or Beazell Street railroad crossings.

As a result of this closing, a new River Lot shuttle service will begin on Nov. 1. Hours of operation for the Fall semester are from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Stops will be at the corner of Hamer Way and Senior Drive, corner of Hamer Way and Coover Road, and the transit shelters located in the River Lot. This is phase one of an expanded on-campus shuttle service. An enhanced version of this shuttle service will be launched at the beginning of the Spring 2011 semester.

Oct. 28, 2010 - Partial LOT 11 Closure For Special Event

Due to the special event Scholarship Dinner Oct. 28, a portion of LOT 11, near the loading docks, will be blocked off. LOT 11 parking permit holders may park in LOT 4 (the River lot) until 10 p.m. Oct. 28.

Oct. 21, 2010 - Partial LOT 12 Closure

A partial closure of Lot 12 will be in effect from Oct. 25, 2010, until the end of the semester as work on the campus loop road continues. Lot 12 permit-holders may park in Lot 14 if necessary.

Oct. 14, 2010 - Homecoming Guest Parking

Parking for Homecoming: Individuals and guests attending the Homecoming parade and events may park in the Vulcan Garage for a flat rate of $3.00 from 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. Lot 22 (Vulcan Garage) permit holders will still have access to the garage during this time.

Oct. 14, 2010 - Homecoming Relocation for LOTS 12, 14 and 21

Parking Permit holders for Lots 12, 14 and 21 are asked to relocate their vehicles to LOT 4 (River Lot) from October 15, 2010 at 5 p.m. until October 16, 2010 at 6 p.m. to accommodate Homecoming events. 

Oct. 12, 2010 - Homecoming Parade Routs

Parking permit holders in Lots 15 and 17 please be aware that the Homecoming parade route will travel through these lots. Individuals who need to leave during the hours of 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. on October 16, 2010 should move their vehicles to Lot 4 (River Lot) prior to the start of the parade. Also, those who may be returning during this time should park their vehicle in Lot 4 until after 3 p.m. We apologize for this temporary inconvenience.

Aug. 27, 2010 - LOT 13 Removed

Due to lack of interest in Lot 13 and to expedite continued progress on the Loop Road construction, Lot 13 has been removed from the inventory, until further notice.

Aug. 27, 2010 - Third Street Rail Crossing Closed

The Third Street railroad crossing is permanently closed. To access the River Lot, use the Beazel Street Crossing or Hamer Crossing.
