NASM Certification Preparation and Partnership

NASM ( and Cal U partnered in 2003 to deliver some of the nation's top online exercise science degrees in the health and fitness industry. The NASM and Cal U partnership provides individuals with an opportunity to take classes in preparation of national certifications through the National Academy of Sports Medicine.

Cal U exercise science courses have been developed in consideration of NASM certification and curriculum. Student leave the program ready to pursue a number of industry-specific certifications through NASM.

Cal U Bachelor of Science Degree:

This accelerated, 100% online educational program is ideal for the fitness professional looking to enhance their career opportunities. You can now earn your Bachelor of Science in Fitness and Wellness completely online in less time than traditional, campus-based programs. Students are prepared to sit for NASM's CPT (Certified Personal Trainer) examination.  Complete the program in 3 years with little or no previous college credit, or 2 years with a previously completed associate's degree or significant transfer credit.

 Cal U Master of Science Degrees:

NASM has worked closely with Cal U to collaboratively develop an exciting, relevant and practical master's degree program that is delivered 100% online. Designed for the busy professional, Cal U students can complete their degree in just one year while continuing their industry professions. This master's degree program incorporates and prepares students in the NASM CES (Corrective Exercise Specialist) the NASM PES (Performance Enhancement Specialist) or the NASM CPT (Certified Personal Trainer).

 Cal U Doctorate of Health Science (DHSc) Degree:

Cal U is pleased to offer the first-ever Doctoral degree through our exercise science department in Health Science and Exercise Leadership.  This 100% online doctoral program addresses the education and workforce needs resulting from the continued growth in the aging population and the shift from treating disease to promoting health and wellness.  The DHSc is a post-professional academic degree designed for individuals working in clinical, educational, professional, managerial, and research roles within healthcare-related fields who wish to pursue an advanced professional degree that will provide opportunities for career enhancement or career advancement.

Cal U Certificates:

NASM has also worked closely with Cal U to collaboratively develop an exciting, relevant and practical post-bachelors certificate program that is delivered 100% online. Designed for the busy professional, who already possess a bachelor's degree in a related degree area (Exercise Science, Athletic Training, Physical Therapy, etc.), Cal U students can complete a single certificate track by taking only four courses, while continuing their industry professions.

Scholarship Opportunities

NASM is proud to support the development and professionalization of the health, fitness, performance, and sports medicine industry through its higher education initiatives. Award winners will receive full graduate tuition funding for any of the online Master of Science degree tracks offered at California University of Pennsylvania.
