Dr. Frank Stetar

Biography

Dr. Stetar was appointed Interim Director of Bands at Cal U in August 2015. A Music Educator and Performing, Dr. Stetar specializes in the Trumpet, Piano, Pipe Organ, arranging and composition. 

Dr. Stetar previously taught at California Area High School in Coal Center, Pennsylvania for fifteen years where he served as director of instrumental and vocal music ensembles, music educator, and had administrative duties for prior to his appointment at Cal U.  Also a composer and arranger, he has arranged and composed numerous charts for the California Bands as well as bands at other local schools.

As a performing musician, Dr. Stetar performs regularly with the Mon Valley Push which tours regularly throughout the eastern United States on trumpet, drums, and clarinet as well as lead vocals. Dr. Stetar also performs with several other groups as needed. 

Dr. Stetar has performed throughout the United States as venues such as Pittsburgh’s Stage AE and has recorded on several internationally selling CDs.

Research Interests

The effects of competition in instrumental music classes and its effect on student motivation and achievement.
