The Student Affairs Practice graduate certificate, delivered 100% online, is designed to prepare post-baccalaureate students with the knowledge and skills necessary for an entry-level position in the field of student affairs, as well as to assist those currently working in student affairs who seek to advance their own personal knowledge and professional credentials.

Student affairs professionals provide services and support to enhance student growth and development. They work in a variety of settings including housing and residential life, student union management, student leadership, new student orientation, admissions, financial aid, student success and retention, and may provide counseling, career services, and multicultural support services.

The Certificate in Student Affairs Practice will equip the learner with competencies in these core areas of study:

  1. The philosophical, legal and ethical foundations of the field of student affairs.
  2. Functions and practices of student affairs units in college or university setting.
  3. College student learning and development.
  4. Student affairs administration.

The Student Affairs Practice graduate certificate will NOT certify you as a professional counselor. You may want to check your state’s licensure laws for more information. However, you may be able to use certain courses for additional credits toward professional counselor licensure (check with your state licensing board for counselors) or for continuing education credits.
