10th Annual Parent and Family Move-In Day Picnic
Convocation Center

Join us for a Cal U Tradition! The annual Parent & Family Move-in Day Picnic is an indoor picnic in a much needed cooler environment, with no weather restrictions. The picnic serves as a smooth transitional event that offers a final opportunity for parents and family members to have last minute questions answered, meet and greet others, gather additional information, and enjoy a memorable lunch with your student before leaving campus.

*Students and families may come to the picnic before or after move-in. Commuter students welcome!

President Geraldine Jones welcomes you, the newest members of the Vulcan Family.  This New Student Convocation and Candle Lighting Ceremony is steeped in Vulcan Tradition. This is evening symbolizes how far you’ve come, and how far you will go as you light a candle and look forward toward the next few years.

Explore Cal U through Culture, Wellness, Adventure, and Local Shopping by choosing your own activity. These activities are optional, but will provide a great way for you to meet other members of your class and learn about Cal U and the area. Pre-Registration is required for our Adventure Activities, so be sure to sign-up soon! You may sign-up for multiple events.

Come to the Jennie A. Carter Multicultural Center to meet and learn about Cal U’s cultural-related student clubs and organizations. The Center’s student groups include the African Student Association (ASA), Black Student Union (BSU), Hispanic Student Association (HSA), Rainbow Alliance (Gay-Queer Straight Alliance) and Lambda Leaders (Gay-Queer-Straight student panelist group). Other campus cultural related clubs and organizations joining us will be Cal U Women United, Cal U Men United, National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC-Historically Black Greek Organizations) and the Young and Gifted Gospel Choir (YGGC) to join us. Come learn more about the folks that comprise Culture @ Cal – including the club members, missions, activities, and learn how to GET INVOLVED! Prizes and give-a-ways will include University and Multicultural Affairs SWAG.

Outdoor Adventures On and Near the Mon

Guided Kayaking

Explore the Monongahela River through Venture Outdoors. Learn about history, wildlife and other exciting information along this 1-hour paddle. A safety talk, instructions and equipment will be provided.     
*Registration required, space is limited.  

Biking on the Fredericktown River Trail
1:30 - 4 p.m.

The Fredericktown River Trail provides an up close tour of riverside communities whose histories are steeped in the coal industry. You can see remnants of coal mining along the trail, as well as chipmunks, woodpeckers, and deer. The crushed-stone path runs alongside, the Monongahela. This is a guided ride.  Bikes and transportation will be provided.
*Registration required, space is limited.  

Fishing on the Mon River (valid PA fishing license required)
1:30 - 4 p.m.

Guided catch and release fishing trip on the Mon River/10 Mile Creek.  All participants MUST have a VALID Pennsylvania Fishing License.  All equipment and transportation will be provided.

Take the Vulcan Flyer/Walmart bus to pick up any last minute items. The Walmart shuttle will leave every hour on the hour from each of our bus stops across campus. A Cal U Shopping Bag will be provided.

The California Community is celebrating the 7th annual RiverFest. There will be food and craft vendors, inflatables and LIVE music. All music events will be held on the Wood Street Stage.
