Program Requirements

    • Applicants admitted to the program have to show/prove/provide a proficiency in Arabic language. The applicant has to have a BA degree, associate degree or certificate in Arabic. The applicant who does not hold any of these degrees/certificates has to score at least High intermediate or 2 in the ACTFL or ILR speaking and writing assessment tests. This requirement will be for both natives & non-natives speakers of Arabic.
    • Proof of English Language Proficiency:  All applicants are required to demonstrate a level of proficiency in the English language sufficient to meet the admission requirement of the Graduate School.  In addition to the above referenced degree/s, proficiency can also be demonstrated by:
      • TOEFL or IELTS will be required where the primary language of instruction is not English.
      • Submission of an official Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score report with a minimum score of 550 (paper-based test) or 213 (computer-based tests) or 76 (internet) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language.
      • Submission of an official International English Language Testing System (IELTS) - Academic Module score report with a minimum score of 6 from the International English Language Testing System or an (ITEP) score of 4.
      • Non-native speakers of English, if admitted to the program, may be required at least 6 credits of English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction during the first semester.  Assessment by faculty will determine if the student requires additional ESL courses after the first semester.

Athletic Training

Master of Science: Athletic Training

California University of Pennsylvania's Master of Science in Athletic Training degree program is a 63-credit curriculum that takes a hands-on, multifaceted approach to preparing students for certification. Graduate students in this hybrid master's degree program take some courses on Cal U's campus, including clinical skills labs and two cadaver anatomy dissection courses, examination, and therapeutic intervention courses and one semester, students take courses online while engaging in a clinical practicum. Additionally, in the second summer semester students are engaged in an off-campus clinical immersion experience.

Students develop an advance skillset in the areas of:

  • casting and splinting
  • advanced manual therapy techniques
  • alternative therapies

Admission Requirements:

The following are the three routes to admission:

Traditional 2-year, post-bacheloriate degree

A student who has already completed a bachelor’s degree and meets the requirements for graduate application. Students can have earned any undergraduate degree, however a discipline related to the health science field is strongly encouraged as they are more likely to fulfill the prerequisites for the MSAT Program.

Early Entry (3+2, internal applicants)

Internal students will major in Pre-Athletic Training and complete undergraduate prerequisite courswork. During their final undergraduate term, spring semester-year 3, student will apply to the MSAT Program.

Early Admission Assurance

Pre-Athletic Training Students can apply for Admission Assurance during the spring semester of their first or second year. This admission guarantees the student a spot in the MSAT Program pending meeting certain academic requirements. To be considered for the Early Admission Assurance Program, student must be admitted into CalU, pursuing an undergraduate degree and meet the following criteria:

·         Cumulative high school GPA of 3.5 or better (on a 4.0 scale)

·         1100 SAT or 22 ACT scores

·         Declare pre-athletic training as their major by March, year 1

Once admitted to the Early Admission Assurance program, students must meet with following academic standards and requirements to keep the guaranteed status into the MSAT program.

·         Maintain cumulative GPA 3.25

·         Earn ‘B-‘ or better in program prerequisite courses

Students who maintain these qualifications will also get first preference in their initial clinical rotation.

In the spring of their 3rd year, students will need to submit all other program application materials to complete the application process.

  • A  cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher
  • A combined 3.00  GPA or better in all prerequisite coursework and earn a C+ or better in each prerequisite course
    • Biology, Chemistry, Human Anatomy, Human Physiology, Exercise Physiology, Health, Kinesiology/Biomechanics, Nutrition, Psychology, Statistics, and Physics
  • Earned a minimum of 60 undergraduate credits
  • Official transcripts from an accredited institution
  • Submit two letters of recommendation

Program Requirements:

  • Submit proof of immunization
  • Complete a minimum of 30 clinical observations hours, across three different rotations
  • Provide verification of CPR/AED certification
  • Signed Technical Standards form
  • Hepatitis B Waiver form
  • Act 34 Clearance (Pa. Criminal History)
  • Act 114 Clearance (Federal Criminal History/ FBI fingerprinting background check)
  • Act 151 Clearance (Child Abuse)

Applicants must meet the admissions criteria (or be currently enrolled in the remaining prerequisites).

*Applicants interested in our program only have to complete the ATCAS application.  You DO NOT need to complete a separate application Cal U.  However, your admissions decision and your intent to enroll with be processed by Cal U Graduate Admissions. 

In the Program Documents section you are asked to upload 3 clearances. This is in accordance with the commonwealth of PA and Department of Education because our students will be engaged in clinical/field experiences in the presence of minors.

 Admission Requirements for MBA Nursing Administration and Leadership

  • Applicants must meet the MBA Admission Requirements and hold an MSN in Nursing Administration & Leadership from California University of Pennsylvania or comparable MSN or DNP program from another accredited school.
  • Cal U MSN alumni who have completed the required MBA foundation courses (ACC 200, and ECO 100 or ECO 201) can complete the MBA component by taking an additional 24 credits.
  • Cal U MSN alumni who have NOT completed one or more of the required MBA foundation courses (ACC 200, and ECO 100 or ECO 201) can complete the degree by completing up to six additional foundation credits as instructed by the program coordinator.
  • Graduates from another accredited institution’s MSN or DNP programs in nursing administration applying for the MBA degree for nurse administrators may have additional MSN coursework to complete based upon evaluation for transfer of courses equivalent to NUR 602 Health Policy in Nursing, NUR 603 Information Systems for Nurses in Health Care Organizations, NUR 714 Legal Aspects of Health Care Administration, and NUR 715 Financial Management in Non-profit Health Care Organizations.
  • Students who have completed the required MBA foundation courses can complete the dual degree with only 24 credits instead of the 36 credits required if the MSN and MBA programs were taken separately. Students without the required foundation courses would need to complete up to six additional credits.

 

Communication Disorders

Admission Deposit

Admission to this program is highly competitive.  Students admitted to the program are required to submit a non-refundable $250 deposit.  The deposit is due to the university within two weeks of the student accepting the University's offer of admission.  When the deposit is not received by the due date, the offer of admission will be withdrawn and offered to another applicant.  Please click here to pay this deposit.

Criminal Justice (Doctorate)

Admission Requirements (Regular)

  • Earned master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution (or foreign equivalent) in criminal justice, criminology or a cognate discipline such as law (criminal justice-related LL.M.), anthropology, sociology, psychology or public administration.  J.D. degree with demonstrated professional experience in criminal justice will also be considered.
  • Minimum grade-point average of 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) or foreign equivalent, with required graduate-level coursework in academic research methods, and graduate or undergraduate coursework in criminal law, criminal procedure, criminal justice, corrections and the court systems. Note: The prior criminal justice-related courses may be waived based upon actual training and experience. 
  • Current resume, including academic and professional achievements.
  • Two letters of professional recommendation.
  • Submission of a Personal Statement.
  • Submission of a Writing Sample.

Admission Requirements (Conditional)

  • A letter of endorsement from applicant's principal or immediate supervisor
  • A current resume or curriculum vitae
  • A completed Applicant Data Sheet
  • Statement of career goals and degree objectives
