Biography
Professor Bassi has taught in the criminal justice field for more than 40 years. After
completing his graduate studies in police science and administration at Washington
State University, he went on to teach in the Law Enforcement Department at Central
Missouri State University, where he also was an instructor at the Missouri Highway
Patrol Academy. From there, Professor Bassi accepted a position in the Criminal Justice
Department at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and again taught at the State Law
Enforcement Training Center.
While in Nebraska he pursued further graduate study at the University in Lincoln.
In New York, he held two academic positions, one with Niagara County Community College
and more recently with the State University of New York at Brockport (SUNY). He planned,
initiated and, for an extended period, chaired the criminal justice programs at both
of these institutions. Professor Bassi retired from SUNY at Brockport in 2004. Since
then, he has served on the CALU
faculty.
Professor Bassi has been active in a number of professional organizations. His national
experiences include
being a past president of the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences and a past member
of the Board of Directors of the Joint Commission on Criminology and Criminal Justice
Education and Standards; the Criminal Justice Accreditation Council of ACJS; and the
Chairperson of its Accreditation and Standards Committee. He is widely experienced
in criminal justice education program evaluations.
Professor Bassi has served as a resident co-director in three international education
programs for American students. During the late 1970s, his international interests
focused on Denmark, being located in the capital of Copenhagen. Since then, he has
served in similar posts at Brunel University in England, and the Centro Bilingue in
Cuernavaca, Mexico. He also received a grant from the Canadian government to develop
a course covering its criminal justice system. In recent past, he completed a sabbatical
leave studying criminal justice in San Jose, Costa Rica.
