Biography

Robert “Bob” Thorn has served as the vice president for Administration and Finance at California University since February 2010.  In this role he provides leadership and oversight of the University’s financial affairs, resource management and strategic direction. He is a member of the President’s Cabinet, where he functions as the chief financial officer and administrative adviser to the University President.

 

Thorn is responsible for the fiscal security of the University and superintends its financial resources, which include the education and general (E&G), auxiliary and plant budgets that total nearly $150 million. He also works closely with the University President, Cabinet, Council of Trustees, Pennsylvania's State System of Higher Education, state and local officials, as well as the University’s affiliate units to advance the strategic direction of the University. He regularly represents the University in discussions with internal and external stakeholders to progress its strategic goals in academic, business and governmental facets.

 

Thorn and his colleagues work to define institutional priorities to assure compliance with laws, regulations and policies/procedures, and to develop processes for the continuous and smooth operation of the University.

 

Formerly the associate director of accounting/financial aid at Ohio University, Thorn joined California University in 1993 as director of Financial Aid. He later served as assistant vice president for Administration and Finance.

 

Thorn lives in Brownsville, Pa., with his wife, Jackie. He has three children and is the proud grandfather of two.
