Department of Social Work
Dr. Selina Matis, LCSW, a lifelong resident of Southwestern Pennsylvania, is a social work faculty member at California University of Pennsylvania, her alma mater, where she earned her own MSW degree. She received her doctoral degree in social work from Widener University. Additionally, she has a BS in Elementary Education and a MS in School Psychology both from Cal U.
Clinically, she has worked primarily in the mental health arena supporting children and their families in a variety of settings. She has specialized in treating trauma across the lifespan. She currently runs a private practice in Fayette County providing counseling, consultation, and supervision services.
Educationally, Dr. Matis has taught at both the BSW and MSW levels in a variety of subject areas including research, policy, human behavior in the social environment, child welfare, and program evaluation. She has experience supporting students through the social work field process in a variety of ways as well, including as a field coordinator, field faculty liaison, and as MSW supervisor. Dr. Matis has been published and presented on a variety of topics including resilience, self-care and burn-out, trauma-informed social work, working with families, helping students succeed, and the social work competencies.
Dr. Matis' research interests include resilience, mental well-being, trauma, burnout, and self-care.
