Commencement

Commencement Celebrations at Cal U

Cal U is proud to honor and celebrate its graduates. Formal Commencement ceremonies typically are held twice a year, at the close of the spring and fall semesters.

Because these ceremonies mark a significant milestone in a student’s academic journey, they will be held in person or postponed until it is safe to do so. The Guide to Operations outlines the University’s plans to hold Commencement ceremonies appropriate to the University’s operational level.

For our January and May 2021 Graduates

Cal U is operating at Level 3 and is planning to host modified, socially distanced ceremonies for the Spring 2021 semester.

Ceremonies will be held at in our Convocation Center and will be organized by College to reduce the number of attendees at each event. Each graduate who attends the in-person ceremony will receive two (2) guest tickets. Individuals of any age count as "guests." Because of capacity limits, we currently are unable to approve additional guests.

  • Graduate ceremony: All School of Graduate Studies and Research graduates will be invited to attend a ceremony on Friday, May 7, 2021 at 7 p.m.
  • Undergraduate ceremonies:
    • College of Education and Liberal Arts graduates will be invited to attend a ceremony on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at 10 a.m.
    • Eberly College of Science and Technology graduates will be invited to attend a ceremony on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at 2 p.m.

For Our Guests

Doors open one hour before each ceremony. To mitigate risk, all guests must wear masks and social distancing will be required.

Accommodations for guests with disabilities can NOT be reserved in advance. Guests will be offered parking and seating in order of arrival. Handicapped seating locations for wheelchairs and companion seating will be available on the second floor railing area, accessible by elevator. A sign language interpreter is scheduled to be at each ceremony.

For our Class of 2020 Graduates

Because of occupancy limits, only January and May 2021 graduates will be included in the ceremonies held May 7-8. But our Class of 2020 has not been forgotten.  All Class of 2020 graduates will be surveyed in the coming weeks to gauge interest in options and timing for a special ceremony or celebration. Please stay tuned for that survey!
