Join us on Monday, March 25, 2019 (11 a.m. to 5 p.m) for the GRADUATION FAIR at the University Bookstore.

Every fall and spring semester, the University Bookstore hosts a Graduation Fair at the Natali Student Center. Representatives from various campus departments along with representatives from Herff Jones, Balfour, GradImages, and Framing Success will be available to discuss and provide students with important graduation-related information.

Academic Regalia Policy

Commencement is the most formal academic ceremony held by the University. It is also the most joyful of our events as we celebrate our students who have worked so hard to earn their degrees.

The commencement ceremony is bound by its traditions and decorum, and where regalia serves to unify not only the graduating class, but the University as well.

Accordingly, each participant in commencement should adhere to the University’s regalia standards:

  • Each graduating student must be attired in the approved, University's academic gown, matching cap, and hood (to be vested during the ceremony at the graduate level only). An exception is made for students who choose to wear their military dress uniforms.
  • The gown and hood (if applicable) should be clean and pressed.
  • The mortarboard should be worn flat on the top of the head, with the top of the cap parallel to the floor. For undergraduate students, the tassel should hang on the right side of the cap at the start of the program. Graduate students should have the tassel hang on the left side of the cap.
  • Students are discouraged from decorating their mortarboards; however if decorated, it must be minimal and non-distracting to the ceremony and other graduates. Caps may be decorated on the top only and any decorations must lie flat on the mortarboard. Nothing may hang or dangle from the mortarboard, other than the University-approved tassel.
  • Adornments to regalia may include, but are not limited to cords, stoles, medallions, pins, and patches officially issued by the University and/or its recognized student organizations.
  • Traditional academic regalia must be worn by all faculty and administrators participating in the commencement ceremony.

Participants not in compliance with the requirements of the University’s academic regalia standards may be asked to remove and/or conceal any unapproved regalia and/or adornments.

Graduate degree-seeking students (master’s and doctoral level only) should review the Graduate Honors at Graduation policy for eligibility. If eligible for this distinction, honor cords can be obtained at the University Bookstore at no charge.
