Creativity in the Arts on Display in Manderino

Cal U is hosting the Scholastic Arts and Writing Awards of Southwestern Pennsylvania. Work from students in grades 7-12 is on display in Manderino Library through Feb. 18.

Art and writing submissions from more than 200 students in grades 7-12 are on display in the third-floor gallery of Manderino Library as part of the Scholastic Arts and Writing Awards of Southwestern Pennsylvania.

Cal U sponsors the creative competition, which was open to students in schools in Greene, Washington and Fayette counties. University professors Brent House, Scott Lloyd and Kim Vanderlaan served on a panel of judges for the entries. In all, 168 pieces of writing were submitted by 101 students, and judges recognized 81 with Gold Keys, Silver Keys and Merit awards. There were 339 artworks submitted by 124 students, with 168 earning awards.

Students, families and teachers, as well as the community are invited to a reception at noon Feb. 18 in the Manderino gallery. The awards ceremony will follow at 2 p.m. in Steele Hall.
