Cal U Baseball Club Finishes 5th at NCBA World Series

Cal U’s season ended with losses to San Diego State (11-2) and Longwood (11-7).

California University’s Vulcans Baseball club finished fifth at the National Club Baseball Association Division II World Series in Pittsburg, Kan.

The Vulcans opened play with a 4-2 victory over Longwood (Va.) University as junior pitcher Austin Mitchell earned the win, allowing just six hits with eight strikeouts.

Senior shortstop Brandon Warner led the offense with three hits, including a double and two RBI. Senior left fielder Dylan Kugler added two hits and a run scored.

Cal U’s season ended with losses to San Diego State (11-2) and Longwood (11-7).

Against San Diego State junior right fielder Zack Dugan had two hits and a double.

In the elimination game against Longwood, the Vulcans trimmed a 10-2 deficit to 10-7 with a five-run  sixth inning before falling by four runs.

Kugler again led the offense with two hits, including a triple, three RBI and two runs scored.

Cal U finished the season with a 22-2 overall record.
