The Campus Election Engagement Project is offering two paid fellowships this fall for students selected as CEEP Fellows.

CEEP defines itself as “a national, nonpartisan project that helps America’s colleges and universities get as many of their 20 million students as possible to register, volunteer in campaigns, educate themselves, and turn out at the polls.”

Each CEEP Fellow will receive a stipend of $1,000 for working at least 10-15 hours per week to execute Cal U’s campus election engagement plan between Aug. 15 and Dec. 1, 2018.

Fellows will help to develop the plan, which will include a series of activities encouraging Cal U students to educate themselves about the issues, register to vote and cast their ballots in the 2018 midterm election.

“We are fortunate to have these opportunities for students who want to gain experience in community organizing and voter engagement,” said Dr. Melanie Blumberg, political science professor in the Department of History, Politics, Society and Law.

“This year’s midterm elections will have a major impact on the local, state and national levels. Candidates are running on issues, such as college affordability, that directly affect college students, so it’s important that they turn out and vote.”

 Apply for a Fellowship

Cal U’s CEEP Fellows must be enrolled and in good academic standing. They must be self-starters who are willing to:

  • Invest at minimum of 10 hours per week in CEEP activities.
  • Participate in initial orientation/training.
  • Maintain weekly contact with CEEP.
  • Take part in a biweekly Fellows conference call with CEEP staff.

The application process is competitive. Interested students will be asked to complete an application form and submit a 250-word essay, “Why the Midterm Elections Matter.”

Deadline for submission is May 9, 2018.
