The Vulcans have featured at least one WGCA scholar in five of the last six years, while Suazo was one of four recipients from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) recognized for the honor. The WGCA acknowledges scholars throughout all divisions of the NCAA and to qualify for the laurel, a student-athlete must maintain a cumulative 3.50 grade-point-average (GPA) or higher.

In the spring, Suazo became only the second women's golfer in league history to be selected both the PSAC Golfer and Freshman of the Year in the same season. She finished the year with a scoring average of 79.8 strokes, which ranked second-best among freshman in recent program history. Suazo claimed a top-10 finish in eight events this year while garnering medalist honors three times. The New York product tied for third overall during the PSAC Championships in the fall before competing as an individual qualifier at the NCAA East Super Region Championships.
