High school students and their families — about 100 people in all – visited Cal U during the second Annual Summer Experience and Mascot Race on July 16.

High school sophomores, juniors, seniors and their families spent a morning on campus, which included information sessions, campus tours, a mascot race and lunch.

“It was a good turnout, up from last year,” said Kevin Eggleston, assistant director of the Cal U Welcome Center.  “This is a lighter way to bring people here to have some fun, learn and see what Cal U has to offer.”

Ella Comi, a senior from Erie, Pa., enjoyed her campus tour.

“It was nice, and I was really impressed with the library, its size and setup,” said Comi, who wants to major in psychology.

Emma Piro, a senior from Johnstown Pa., talked with Cal U’s student ambassadors and orientation leaders to gather information on secondary education and mathematics programs.

"The residence halls and the suites in them were something that stood out,” she said.  “I liked the campus and got some good information.”

Bryce Malek, from Monongahela, Pa., is interested in Cal U’s physical therapist assistant program.

“I loved seeing the campus and thought the fitness center and residence halls were wonderful,” he said. “This was a good time!”

For the second consecutive year, Cal U’s Summer Experience admissions event culminated with Blaze, the Vulcans mascot, defeating Cheese Chester, one of the Pirates Pierogi mascots, during a foot race on the Quad.

The first Cal U Open House this fall will be Sept. 29, beginning with 8:30 a.m. registration in the Natali Student Center.  For more information,  contact the Office of Admissions at 724-938-4404 or email admissions@calu.edu.
