In the end Blaze defended his turf.

The Vulcan mascot faced off against Sauerkraut Saul, a Pierogy from the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Chick-fil-A Cow, and Buzz from Bee Graphix at the third annual Vulcan Mascot Challenge July 23 at the Convocation Center.

The event was fun way to introduce the Cal U community to potential future Vulcans, who were invited to campus to meet faculty and staff, learn more about academic programs and services, and take a campus tour.

“The Convocation Center made for a comfortable, effective one-shop stop,” said Jenifer Sigado, director of Cal U’s Welcome Center.

“We also could showcase this impressive facility and give the opportunities for attendees to meet with faculty, our career services and admissions staff and really get a firsthand feel for some of the important decisions they must make.

Rayna Winston, who will be a senior at Monessen High School, wants to major in graphic design.

“I enjoyed the visit, especially the tour, and learned some good information about the program,” she said. “The mascot events were fun, different, and I am definitely interested in coming here.”

Another soon-to-be senior, Anthony Lapaglia, and his mom, Laura, visited campus from Canonsburg, Pa. He wants to major in accounting with a minor in psychology and cheered and predicted winners throughout the mascot events.

“Everything was nice and Cal is definitely among my top choices,” he said.

“We really like what we heard from the psychology department, were impressed with the residence halls and the available computer labs right in the building,” Laura Lapaglia added.
