Hispanic Heritage Month Events Set

A panel discussion on Oct. 6 and a motivational speaker Oct. 13 are part of the University's celebration.

The Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at California University of Pennsylvania is celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with two events in collaboration with Clarion and Edinboro universities.

At 11:30 a.m. Oct. 6, “Café con Leche Panel Discussion about Latinx Cultura,” will be moderated by Edinboro faculty member Dr. Stephanie Diez-Morel.

Panelists are Dr. Andrea Cencich, Cal U, Department of Humanities; T. David Garcia, Cal U, vice president for Enrollment Management; Dr. Sheila Lorenzo de la Peña, Edinboro, Department of Art Therapy; Dr. Sandra Trejos, Clarion, Department of Social Sciences; and Dr. Jason Heavilin; Clarion, Department of Finance, Law, Accounting & Real Estate.

At 1 p.m. Oct. 13, Hispanic Heritage Month celebration continues with motivational speaker The Cuban Guy.

At the age of 16, he escaped from Cuba and arrived in America without his parents and speaking no English. His presentation, “How to Move Forward When You Feel Like Quitting,” will describe how he turned his life around in spite of those challenges.
