Dear Colleagues and Students,

As California, Clarion and Edinboro universities prepare for integration as Pennsylvania Western University on July 1, pending approval by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, there is much work to be done.

To ensure a smooth transition, Dr. Scott E. Miller, whose selection as senior vice president for Academic Affairs of the integrated university was announced in Fall 2021, has already begun work in his new role.

At the start of the spring semester, he also assumed the position of senior vice president for Academic Affairs and provost for California University, Clarion University and Edinboro University.

As a core member of the strategic leadership team, he is responsible for providing direction for other members of the academic leadership team across all campuses, and he will partner with other divisions to ensure quality academic support systems for students.

Under Dr. Miller’s guidance, much good work has already been accomplished.

He has headed the team that developed the academic program array. Also, he is a member of the leadership committee for accreditation of the new university and leads a committee of six deans across the California, Clarion and Edinboro campuses, including development of on-ground programs and a new online campus.

Dr. Miller has worked to align programs with regional workforce needs. He has spearheaded efforts to increase efficiencies in university offices and to train staff for student recruitment and retention. He has been successful in fundraising and stewardship.

Building upon the best of the west,

Dr. Dale
