California University provides various Information Technology Resources, such as internet access, to support the University’s mission and institutional goals for the purpose of enhancing productivity and maintaining effective communication.

1.    File-sharing programs can increase the risk of viruses or hacking. File-sharing or downloading should only be done from trusted websites that comply with copyright laws. Users should carefully check out a site before downloading to ensure its legitimacy and compliance with applicable laws. Using University Information Technology resources to violate copyright or other laws can result in loss of the privilege of using University Information Technology in addition to possible legal penalties.

2.    All devices using University internet access should be connected directly into the network, not through routers or other access points which are prohibited on the University network due to possibly interfering with University provided wireless network access and creating security issues.

3.    Always make sure to log off public computers and do not share your usernames or passwords for any account. You are responsible for all activity on your University account or any device registered under your name on the University network.

4.    University email accounts are not to be used to forward chain letters or send mass messages which can disrupt the system and inconvenience other users.

Information Technology Resources users are encouraged to review the University’s Acceptable Use Policy and Electronic Mail Policy available on the University’s website for more information on appropriate use at www.calu.edu/faculty-staff/it-services/policies-guides/index.htm.
