We realize that you may be purchasing new electronics over the Thanksgiving and Winter breaks and we wanted to provide students with a few reminders about new technology on campus.

Televisions need to have a QAM256 tuner in order to receive cable on campus. Typical TV brands that have QAM256 tuners are Samsung, Toshiba, Sony, LG, and Vizio. Sometimes manufacturures make cheaper versions of their TVs for Black Friday and may not include the same components so be sure to check this before you purchase a new TV. This should be available under the tuner information ATSC/NTSC or any other type of QAM tuner will not work on campus.

There is no way to make a TV without QAM 256 work on campus.

Gaming consoles such as XBOX One, Wii U, and PS4 have to be registered on gameregister.calu.edu in order to receive internet access. If you are not able to register the console please e-mail utechrequests@calu.edu with your Cal U username, type of device, and the device’s MAC address.

Devices that will need to be manually registered: Portable gaming systems such as 3DS, PS Vita, Nvidia Shield, Apple TV, Roku TV, Chromecast, Sling, and Smart TVs for internet access. Please e-mail UTechRequests@calu.edu with your device’s MAC address (typically on the box) and your Cal U e-mail.
