Meteorology/Earth Sciences Colloquia Series

Presents Nolan Doesken

5:00p.m. - March 24th

Eberly Hall, Room 255

The California University of Pennsylvania’s (CalU) Meteorology Club will be hosting its first speaker of the spring semester, Nolan Doesken as part of its Spring Colloquia Series lineup. Doesken will be speaking at 5 pm, on the 24th of March in the Eberly College of Science and Technology, room 255.

Nolan Doesken grew up in rural Illinois and had a strong interest in weather from a very young age.  After finishing degrees from the University of Michigan and the University of Illinois in the 1970s, he was offered the job of Assistant State Climatologist at Colorado State University in 1977.  He has been there ever since and was appointed as State Climatologist at the Colorado Climate Center in 2006.   Nolan is responsible for monitoring the climate of Colorado. This involves maintaining weather station networks across Colorado and accessing weather data from existing sources such as the National Weather Service and the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service.  Nolan also spearheads the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow network (CoCoRaHS) -- a volunteer program engaging people of all ages in helping track and map precipitation.

This presentation is open to the general public and is free of charge.  For more information contact the Colloquia Series Co-Chairs, Amy Burnett at BUR4727@calu.edu, Alex McAvoy at MCA1962@calu.edu, or Dr. Majcen at majcen@calu.edu.
