As part of the annual Cal U Cross Country Camp, Zola Budd will be speaking and answering questions in Blaney Theatre on August 1st at 7pm

Zola, the famed South African barefoot runner, achieved worldwide fame in 1984 at the age of 17 when she broke the World Record for 5000m. Despite also winning two World Cross Country titles, she is most remembered in the US for being involved in the fall of American Mary Decker during the 1984 Olympic 3000m final is Los Angeles.  That event led to multiple death threats and her quick evacuation out of the US before the games ended.

Having endured the death of two siblings, and a murdered father, Zola is an extremely nice and hard workiing individual who has a very interesting life story.

If you're interested in attending the event, please email Daniel Caulfield at caulfield@calu.edu to reserve your seat.
