GEO 383 Dark Tourism and Extreme Topics

Fall 2018 Tuesdays and Thursdays 9:3--10:45 Eberly Hall 130

This course explores some of the more extreme phenomenon of the tourism industry, which is one of the world's largest and fastest growing industries. This course will focus on growing special interest markets within the tourism industry with an emphasis on more extreme topics that touch upon death, destruction, and the macabre. In this course, students study the impacts of dark and extreme tourism development on the culture, society, economies, and the environment at different geographical scales. (3 crs.)

GEO 383 is a General Education Special Experience course.

This course is part of the Tourism Hospitality and Event Studies major (42 credits).

GEO 383 also counts toward the 42 credits of 300-400 level classes required for all majors.

There are no pre-requisites. This course is open to any undergraduate student.
