Sandra Cisneros is a writer who explores the lives of the working class through literature.[1] Cisneros was born December 20th, 1954 in Chicago, Illinois.[2] She is most well known for her novel, The House on Mango Street. Cisneros has won many awards for her writing, including the MacArthur Foundation Fellowship and the Texas Medal of the Arts.[2] She mainly writes about her experience growing up Latina in America. She has also written several collections of poetry, including My Wicked, Wicked Ways and Woman Hollering Creek and Other Stories.[2] In September 2016, President Barack Obama presented her with a National Medal of Arts.[2]
