Thursday, November 1, 2018

  • All Day Session (8 a.m. - 4 p.m.): Mental Health First Aid, Rose Smiley, Phd, MPH, LSW, California University of PA
    (30 attendee limit)
    8-hour course that teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. The training gives you the skills you need to reach out and provide initial help and support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem or experiencing a crisis. Open to anyone who wants to make their community healthier, happier, and safer for all. No CES!
  • 9 a.m. - noon Session 1: Mandated Reporter Training with Ann Rice, SPHS STTARS Program Education and Prevention Specialist. NO CES! Approved by the PA Dept. of Human Services in accordance with Act 31 of 2014 and approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education in accordance with Act 126 of the Pennsylvania Public School Code.
  • 9 a.m. - noon Session 2: “Preventing Child Mental Health Problems: Working Together to Create Change” Presented by Carrie Rishel, PhD, MSW, West Virginia University. 3 CES Available.
  • 1 - 4 p.m. Session 1: “Online, Offline, and Over-the-Line: Adolescents in the Digital World” Presented by David Delmonico, PhD, Duquesne University. 3 CES Available.
  • 1 - 4 p.m. Session 2: “Characteristics and Strategies for Autism Spectrum Disorder” Dr. Jason Kight- California University of PA “Applied Behavior Analysis” Peter Heh, EdD, BCBA, California University of PA. 3 CES Available.

  • 1 - 3 p.m. Session 1: “Using Art Therapy to Help Children Through Illness and Loss” Kristy Walter, Excela Health Home Care & Hospice. 2 CES Available.
  • 1 - 3 p.m. Session 2: “Trichotillomania” Melody Dascanio, MS, NCC, LPC, Domestic Violence Services of Southwestern PA. 2 CES Available.

*Lunch is NOT provided.  Information for food options at CalU will be provided on the day of the training.

*Participants are welcome to attend as few or as many of the sessions as they would like.
