Sonia Maria Sotomayor is the first Supreme Court Justice of Hispanic descent. [1] She was born on June 25th, 1954, in the Bronx.[2] She graduated as high school valedictorian and attended Princeton University.[1] After graduating summa cum laude and receiving the Pyne Prize in 1976,[2] she attended law school at Yale and following graduation.[1]After completing law school, she as an assistant district attorney and moved into the private sector in 1984.[2] Sotomayor was the youngest judge in the Southern District, the first Hispanic federal judge in New York State, and the first Puerto Rican woman to serve as a judge in US federal court.[1] Sotomayor was nominated to the Supreme court in May of 2009 by President Barack Obama.[1]
