Puerto Rican actress and dancer, Rita Morena, was born December 11, 1931, in Humacao, Puerto Rico.[1] She was the first Hispanic actress to earn an Oscar for the best-supporting-actress, for her critically acclaimed role as Anita in West Side Story. With over 60 years of acting experience, she is one of only 12 people and the first to earn an Emmy, Tony, Grammy and Oscar.[2] In addition to her acting accolades, she has also gained recognition for her lifelong advocacy work, which includes joining Harry Belafonte and participating in the 1963 civil rights March on Washington and supporting causes in immigrant communities.[3]
