Denice Frohman is a poet, performer, and educator from New York City. She embraces her mixed heritage of Puerto Rican and Jewish descent, identifies as queer and uses poetry to “explore the intersections of race, gender and sexuality.” [1] Frohman’s powerful, inspiring message empowers individuals to embrace and be proud of being their unique selves, in spite of negativity and judgment from society. [2] As the former Program Director for the Philly Youth Poetry Movement, she mentored and worked with young poets, encouraging them to find and share their voice. [1] She has shared her message, as featured speaker from high schools and colleges, to National venues such as CNN, Lincoln Center and the White House.[3] Frohman’s accolades include a fellowship at Canto Mundo, 2013 Hispanic Choice “Creative Artist of the Year” award winner and was named one of the 5 LGBTQ Latinx Heroes for Every Classroom by GLSEN.[3]
