Interesting Facts for National Hispanic Heritage Month

1.     Dr. Ellen Ochoa was the first Hispanic woman astronaut to go to space.

2.     The U.S. Hispanic population now stands at more than 58 million, making them the second-largest racial or ethnic group in the U.S.

3.     Roberto Clemente was not only a famous baseball player, he was also a humanitarian who worked in the off-season organizing charity drives, donating his time and money

4.     Hispanics make up 18% of the U.S. population. That's a 6 % increase since 1970.

5.     Jose Ferrer was the first Hispanic to win an Oscar for Best Actor in 1950 for the film Cyrano de Bergerac.

6.     California Has the Largest Hispanic population.

7.     By 2060, the Hispanic population is projected to be 128.8 million, constituting approximately 31 % of the population.

8.     Carlos Santana was the first Hispanic Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee in 1998.

9.     1.2 million Hispanics are serving in the U.S. Armed Forces.

10. Spanish is the second most spoken language in United States.
