Frida Kahlo, Mexican artist, was born July 6th, 1907, in Coyoacan, Mexico City, Mexico.[1] Kahlo contracted Polio at the age of six, which caused her right leg to be much thinner than her left.[1] As a child, she hid and compensated for her affliction by wearing long skirts and playing sports. [1] In 1925, Kahlo was involved in a bus accident, which caused her to be immobile for some time and to have over 30 medical operations. [2] She learned how to paint while she was bed-ridden. [2] Kahlo’s art reflected the times of her life, finding inspiration in the political chaos in her homeland. [3] After her recovery, she joined the Mexican Communist Party where she re-met Diego Rivera; they married in 1929, divorced in 1939, due to her husband’s extramarital affairs, and remarried in 1940.
