Desiderio Alberto Arnaz ye de Acha the Third, better known as Desi Arnaz Sr. was born on March 2, 1917, in Santiago, Cuba. [1] When he was a teenager, his family immigrated to Miami, Florida where he worked a number of odd jobs to support his family, including cleaning canary cages. [2] A talented musician, Arnaz began as a guitarist for the Siboney Septet, before gaining local and national notoriety as a leader a Congo Line. [3] Although he starred in several films, including an adaptation of the Broadway Musical, Too Many Girls, he's most known for his marriage to Lucille Ball and their TV show, I Love Lucy., which was the no. 1 show in the country for four of its six seasons. [3] Together, Arnaz and Ball created Desilu Productions, inventing several cinematography techniques, including the use of several cameras to film the performance. [2] Although the couple divorced in 1960, they remained lifelong friends until his death in 1986. Arnaz and Ball had two children, Lucie Arnaz and Desi Arnaz Jr. [1]
