Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week

November 12th to November 16th

The Center for Volunteer Programs and Service Learning has planned service opportunities throughout the week both on and off campus to educate the student body and draw attention to the problem of poverty within our global and local community.

All week long!

Student Government Association will be hosting a winter accessory and food drive, No More Chilly Children. Items being collected include hats, scarves, gloves, warm socks, Poptarts, and microwavable mac and cheese cups. The drive will begin on Monday, November 12th and continue through Monday, December 3rd.  Boxes will be placed throughout campus.

Tuesday, November 13th

The Liberty Tower Food Pantry will need help unloading the truck along with filling the recipient’s cart from 9am – 12pm.

The CalU Cupboard will be providing a Pop-Up Pantry from 11am – 1pm in the Manderino Library making food more readily available to students.

Giving Gobbles is a service opportunity benefitting the Good Eats Program. Volunteers are invited to Natali Room 139 from 7pm – 8:30pm to make hand turkeys and write encouraging messages to the students at California Elementary School.

Wednesday, November 14th

California Food Pantry has two shifts available for volunteers to come and help with lifting items, distributing items, and clean-up. The morning shift is from 9:45am – 11am. The afternoon shift is from 4pm – 6pm.

Student Government Association is sponsoring RISE Against Hunger Meal Packing Program from 6pm – 8pm in the Performance Center. We are also asking for volunteers to assist with set-up from 4:30pm – 6pm. Volunteers pack nutritionally balanced meals to be sent internationally.

Thursday, November 15th

Thanksgiving Lunch at Center in the Woods is happening from 10am – 2pm. They are looking for volunteers to assist with serving meals, bussing tables, and interacting with seniors.

Thanksgiving Dinner at Liberty Tower will be from 2:30pm – 5:30pm. They are looking for volunteers to assist with serving meals and cleaning up afterwards.

Good Eats meal packing will be happening at California Elementary School from 3:30 pm – 4:30pm to provide children in need with food for the weekend.

Gamma Sigma Sigma Service Sorority is creating bags of trail mix to be distributed to homeless in the Greater Washington Area. From 6pm – 7:30pm in Natali Room 321, we will be combining peanuts, raisins, MnM’s, granola, and sunflower seeds into treat bags and attaching a message of hope to each bag.

Friday, November 16th

The CalU Cupboard will be providing a Pop-Up Pantry from 11am – 1pm in Natali Student Union.
