Call for Submissions

5th Annual Cal U “Strike a Spark” Conference
on Research, Scholarship, & Creative Activity

Wednesday, April 24, 9:00 am – 4:00 pm
Cal U Convocation Center

Learn about this year’s Strike a Spark Conference and how to submit a proposal to present by clicking on this link:  www.calu.edu/strikeaspark.  The proposal deadline is midnight, Wednesday, April 3.

If you have been involved in research, scholarship or creative activity (RSCA), you are encouraged to share your work at the conference through:

·      a poster presentation (printing costs will paid by the Center for Undergraduate Research)

·      a paper/oral presentation

·      exhibiting creative work

·      giving a performance

Student presentations may focus on innovative RSCA from individual projects, class projects, capstone experiences, or senior/graduate theses. Global online students are also encouraged to present. A panel of judges will evaluate these presentations, with prizes awarded for outstanding work. Joint faculty-student presentations are welcomed.

Faculty can also submit a proposal that covers multiple student participants in a particular course, where poster or oral presentations are developed in class assignments, or if you would like your students to participate in panel sessions.  Faculty members wishing to use Strike a Spark presentations as graded work for their classes must do their own scoring.  The Strike a Spark Planning Committee is happy to share blank copies of scoring rubrics, but scores from Strike a Spark volunteer judges will not be released to faculty members or the public.

Proposals for poster, paper/oral, or creative works presentations should be submitted online at www.calu.edu/strikeaspark.  Follow the “Learn about submitting proposals” link to read the guidelines, see example abstracts, and link to the online submission form.  Proposals must include a title, an abstract that briefly describes the project or presentation (200 words or less), the name(s) of the presenter(s), and the name of the faculty sponsor.

All proposals are due by midnight, Wednesday, April 3.
Late proposals cannot be considered for judging or awards.

We look forward to seeing you there!
Questions can be directed to Louise Nicholson (nicholson@calu.edu).
