Being an adult is tough at times but knowing how to be self-reliant, resourceful, and prepared makes it so much easier. Finding and being successful in a job, saving and investing money, maintaining a car and home, navigating personal relationships, staying healthy, setting goals, and much more are all things we all must figure out as we get older. But, why wait? Prepare your teen now for high school and beyond.
Our SEEK HD: High School Camp, for students entering grades 9 and 10, will teach a variety of important and necessary life skills that will encourage them to be more independent and excel academically. Our SEEK HD program will explore the popular millennial term “adulting” to discuss and explore tasks that are expected and required of responsible adults. Students will apply their academic skills to everyday life situations through practical and experience-based learning opportunities designed to prepare them for the real world.
The SEEK HD program curriculum will focus on skills and topics relating to finances, cars, food, careers, self-care, housework, and more. Areas to be addressed during the week-long, full-day program will include:
· how to care for and maintain a vehicle,
· how to obtain a driver’s license,
· how to open a bank account,
· how to budget and save money,
· college and career planning,
· how to find a job and the importance of being professional,
· basic cooking and baking,
· how to reduce stress and take care of yourself mentally and physically,
· listening and communicating effectively (outside of social media),
· how to iron and do laundry,
· cleaning and organizing tips, and
· basic home maintenance/repair.
To participate, students must be entering grades 9 or 10 in the fall 2019. The program and topics will be presented by a variety of professionals with skill area knowledge and expertise. Maximum enrollment will be 20 students.
Cal U’s annual Summer Educational Enrichment for Kids (SEEK) children's day camp enrolls children entering grades K-10. Kids have fun while taking part in learning experiences that encourage them to meet their maximum learning potential. Making memories and meeting new friends is all part of the SEEK experience. A variety of curriculum and program options are available for children in different age groups during our two sessions: July 15-19, 2019 and July 29-August 2, 2019. Classes begin at 8:30 AM and end at 4 PM daily on our main campus.
