CED 788  Neurocounseling  100% On-Line

The counseling field is beginning to consider how neuroscience and neurobiology can inform, explain, and enhance the theory and practice of counseling. This course covers several topics related to this overarching theme including the fundamentals of neurophysiology and psychopharmacology. These concepts will be examined within the context of evaluation and treatment of mental health disorders and conditions such as PTSD, substance use, and major depressive disorder. A portion of the course will also focus on the effects of sleep, exercise, nutrition, and stress on psychological functioning. This course aims to prepare clinical mental health counselors to adopt a neuroscience-informed clinical practice.
