Hunger and Homelessness Week 

 

VPSL is hosting Hunger and Homelessness Week from November 18th to November 22nd there will be several activities happening each day that raise awareness around the topic of hunger and homelessness.

 

Thursday November 14

What's the T? Addressing Hunger and Food Insecurity 

Student Affairs Diversity Committee and VPSL is hosting a presenter from the Pittsburgh Food Bank to address issues surrounding hunger and food insecurity in the Pittsburgh area 11AM to 12PM in Vulcan Theatre, Natali Student Center.

 

Microwavables Food Drive

The CalU Cupboard is hosting a microwavables food drive to try and fill up a parking space.

We are collecting items such as: Macaroni and Cheese Cups, Mashed Potato Cups,
Rice Cups and other microwavable foods
.

Donations will be collected in front of Manderino Library on Thursday, November 14th and

behind Natali Student Center on Thursday, November 21st. 
Throughout the week donations can also be dropped off at locations across campus.

Friday November 15

 Box Out: Tiny House Edition

Build and live in a cardboard house and raise awareness for homelessness.

Set-Up will be from 8AM-12PM and the event and judging will be held from 12PM till 6PM in Natali Student Center, Performance Center.

Clothing donations will be accepted at the event for a local homeless shelter!

Sunday November 17

Fall Food Drive

Is your club/organization looking to volunteer? Sign up on Timecounts to volunteer at a local Giant Eagle to collect food.  Hourly shifts available.

 

Monday November 18

Poverty Simulation

Just Harvest will be facilitating a Poverty Simulation from 6PM to 8PM in Natali Student Center, Performance Center.  The Poverty Simulation experience is designed to help participants begin to understand what it might be like to live in a typical low- income family trying to survive from month to month.  It is a simulation, not a game.  The object is to sensitize participants to the realities faced by low-income families.

 

Tuesday November 19

Peanut Butter and Jelly Pack

Join VPSL as we put together PB&J Packets for the City Mission Homeless Shelter in Washington, PA from 4PM to 6PM in Natali 206/207.

 

Wednesday November 20

Good Eats Craft

Stop by to make a craft from 11AM to 1PM in the Food Court for the children who
receive food though the local weekend feeding program.

 

Thursday November 21

Hygiene Packs for Local Youth

Join VPSL as we put together Hygiene Packs with shampoo, conditioner, and deodorant for local High School students from 5PM to 6PM in Natali 206/207.

 

Volunteer at Good Eats!

From 3:30PM to 4:30PM at California Elementary School pack bags of food for the children enrolled in the weekend feeding program.  Sign up on Timecounts!

 

Cal U Cupboard at AVI Thanksgiving

Stop by the Cupboard table in the Gold Rush from 10AM to 2PM.  Feel free to bring your food donations for the Cupboard to fill the Parking Spot in Natali Lot 17.

 

All Week

Microwavable Food Drive and the End of Semester Food Drive in the Halls

The Cupboard needs your help!  Please consider donating this holiday season in the Residence Halls before break or around campus.  The theme for this drive is microwavables but as always all donations are accepted!
