RE: Getting Feminine Hygiene Products Back on Campus!

This past summer, two Cal U students, Hannah Burns and Selena Montijo, attended the PASSHE Women’s Consortium Leadership Institute. This institute provides a forum for the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education to nurture the leadership potential of women students across the Pennsylvania state schools. One of the institute's goals is to have each student create and develop a project on their own campus that they are passionate about.

Selena and Hannah are tackling a massive issue that women all over the world are facing, period poverty. Period poverty is the lack of access to sanitary products, menstrual hygiene education, toilets, hand washing facilities, and, or, waste management. While there are plenty of bathrooms to use at Cal, there are no feminine hygiene products available in those bathrooms. This project is aimed at getting tampon/pad dispensers in as many buildings on campus as possible, at no charge to the Cal U community. Feminine hygiene products are just as much of a necessity as toilet paper.

In order to get Cal U to consider providing and funding these products, we need to demonstrate the need for them on campus. Please consider taking a few minutes to answer this survey honestly.  When you are finished, please share the announcement with your female friends, faculty, staff and on your social media. They can only tackle this issue with the help of ALL female voices on campus.

Questions about this project can be directed to Selena Montijo (mon8985@calu.edu) or Hannah Burns (bur5738@calu.edu).
