Composition Award

Call for Submissions

Please consider submitting your best essays for this year’s Eleanore C. Hibbs Composition Awards. Essays written for English 101 and English 102 during academic year 2019/2020 can be submitted for consideration to the Cal U Department of English via email at taylor_r@calu.edu or in-person at Azorksy Hall 234 by Monday, March 16th 2020. Entry forms are available in Azorsky Hall 234 or via email request at taylor_r@calu.edu.

The English Department gives two awards each year: one for the best paper from Composition I and one for the best paper from Composition II. Winners will be judged and notified by 3-31-20. Each award winner will receive a cash award, a certificate, and recognition at the English Department Awards Luncheon. If there is a strong pool of applicants, notable student essays may get an honorable mention certificate for outstanding work.

English Department Faculty and English Majors will judge submissions.

The Eleanore C. Hibbs Composition Award is in its 36th year. Professor Hibbs passed away in 2006, but her legacy is ongoing.
