Dogs for Hearing is a social event held to raise money for two (2) of Delta Zeta’s philanthropic partners, Gallaudet University and the House Research Institute. Gallaudet University, located in Washington D.C., is the only university in the country with programs specifically for hearing-impaired students. The House Research Institute, located in Los Angeles, is a research center that works to combat hearing loss. In addition, the House Research Institute also sponsors an annual family camp to educate families about hearing loss and focuses on increasing communication skills within families. We will hold a hot dog eating contest and a corn hole tournament with minimal entrance fees, as well as distribute a number of tickets before the event in return for a small donation to our partners. As a chapter, we would like to raise funds and awareness to the University community because Noise Induced Hearing Loss is preventable and communication impairments affect the most vulnerable in our society. In the United States, one in every ten people have some type of hearing loss.
