What: Meet & Greet with the Men of the Historic African-American Fraternity Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc.

Who: Pittsburgh Gamma Lambda Sigma Alumni Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc.

When: 7 to 9 p.m. Nov. 30

Where: 230 Manderino Library

Why: Provide information about the fraternity and gauge interest for a possible membership intake

Why Care: Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity was founded at Howard University in Washington, D.C., January 9, 1914, by three young African-American male students. The Founders, Honorable A. Langston Taylor, Honorable Leonard F. Morse, and Honorable Charles I. Brown, wanted to organize a Greek letter fraternity that would truly exemplify the ideals of brotherhood, scholarship, and service. Today, Phi Beta Sigma has blossomed into an international organization that promotes its motto: “Culture For Service and Service For Humanity.” Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., an international organization comprised of more than150,000 college-educated men, focuses on issues that impact the youth and our communities through our three major programs: Bigger and Better Business, Education and Social Action.

Who We Are: Some of our illustrious brothers include the following men: Hon. John Lewis, Dr. Huey P. Newton, Jerry Rice, Emmitt Smith, Blair Underwood, James Weldon Johnson, Harry Belafonte, Hines Ward, Terrence Howard, Bill Clinton, George Washington Carver, Malik Yoba, Alain LeRoy Locke, Wayne Brady, Kwame Nkrumah, and Charlie Batch.
