Cal U will showcase choreographer Bob Fosse’s distinctive dance style in its spring production of “Cabaret.” Students who plan to audition can brush up on their moves at a Fosse Workshop set for 4:30-7:30 p.m. Jan. 20 in Steele Hall Mainstage Theatre.

This workshop will build on the basic skills introduced in the first Fosse workshop, held in December. Students should dress to move and wear appropriate footwear.

Open auditions for spring productions in the Department of Theatre and Dance — the melodrama “Twilight of the Golds” and the musical “Cabaret” — will be held 6-10 p.m. Jan. 27 in Steele Hall Mainstage Theatre.

Department of Theatre and Dance Spring Productions:

Gary John LaRosa will be the guest director when Cal U presents “Twilight of the Golds.” In this moving melodrama, questions about homosexuality, genetics, abortion and bigotry threaten to rip the Gold family apart and challenge audiences to consider a world that is very close to becoming a reality. The journey is intense, riveting and at time humorous, but always relevant to contemporary society.

Performance dates: Feb. 24, 25, 26 at 8 p.m.; Feb. 26 at 2 p.m.

— Directed by Dr. Michele Pagen, “Cabaret” is set in 1930 at the Kit-Kat Club, a Berlin nightspot where anything goes. This classic musical introduces the audience to Sally Bowles, a young entertainer who dreams of fame and fortune. She and Cliff, a penniless writer, explore romance in a seedy rooming house as the Third Reich gathers strength. Musical numbers include It Couldn't Please Me More, Willkommen, Cabaret, Don't Tell Mama and Two Ladies. Please note: This is a change in the spring theater lineup.

Performance dates: April 7, 8 and 9 at 8 p.m.; April 9 at 2 p.m.
