UPDATE, Nov. 19, 2011:

The women’s volleyball team ended its season with a 3-1 loss to Wheeling-Jesuit in the finals of the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional at Hamer Hall.

The Vulcans finished the season with a 33-5 record. The loss on Nov. 19 ended a 13-match winning streak.  

This was Cal U’s sixth consecutive appearance in the regional finals. The Vulcans won regional crowns in 2000, 2007, 2008 and 2009.

UPDATE, Nov. 18, 2011:

The women’s volleyball team advanced to the finals of the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional Nov. 18 with a 3-0 victory over Edinboro University.

Playing in Hamer Hall, the Vulcans won by scores of 25-10, 25-17 and 25-17.

With this win the Vulcans improve to 33-4 overall. The team now has won 13 straight matches.

Next, Cal U will host Wheeling-Jesuit in the championship match at 6 p.m. Nov. 19.  

The winner of that game will move on to the NCAA II Elite Eight National Championships Dec. 1-3 at a site to be determined.


UPDATE, Nov. 17, 2011:

Playing at home, Cal U’s PSAC champion women’s volleyball team opened the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional Tournament with a 3-0 victory over St. Augustine’s College of Raleigh, N.C.

The Vulcans (32-4) next will face Edinboro in a semifinal match at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 18 in Hamer Hall. Lock Haven will face Wheeling-Jesuit in the 5 p.m. semifinal.

Winners of the Nov. 18 games will contend for the regional title at 6 p.m. Nov. 19 in Hamer Hall.



For the seventh consecutive season, the women’s volleyball team will compete in the NCAA Division II Tournament.

As PSAC champions, the Vulcans (31-4) are the top-seeded team in the Atlantic Regional contest. They will host the three-day even from Nov. 17-19 in Hamer Hall. 

Play begins at noon Nov. 17, with Cal U challenging St. Augustine’s (N.C.) in a regional quarterfinal match at 7:30 p.m.

The other opening-round matches will feature:

  • Edinboro (22-8) vs. Gannon (20-11) at 5 p.m.
  • Defending regional champion Clarion (19-12) vs. Lock Haven (20-9) at noon
  • Wheeling-Jesuit (33-3) vs. Slippery Rock (20-11) at 2:30 p.m.

This will be Cal U’s 11th NCAA Tournament appearance and the fourth time in five years that Cal has hosted the Atlantic Regional. The Vulcans won three consecutive regional crowns, in 2007, 2008 and 2009, and finished second in 2010.

Under the guidance of first-year head coach Peter Letourneau, the Vulcans won 11 straight matches on their way to this year’s PSAC title.
