UPDATE: WOMEN’S GOLF FINISHES 6TH AT NATIONALS

UPDATE: MAY 19,2012

The women's golf team finished in a school-best sixth place at the four-round NCAA Division II National Championships.

Cal U moved up two places in the final round, closing at 148 over par.

Top individual golfers for the Vulcans were senior Dianne Luke (tied for 11th) and junior Maria Lopez (tied for 13th). Luke shot 81 in the fourth round, while Lopez carded a 77.

Nova Southeastern University won the national team title with a score of 82 over par, followed by Florida Southern (+102) and Grand Canyon (+121).

In their only other national tournament appearances, the Vulcans finished seventh last year and eighth in 2010.

The women’s golf team is in eighth place following the third round of the NCAA Division II National Championships at the Persimmon Ridge Golf Course in Louisville, Ky. 

Cal U is 110 over par. Nova Southeastern leads the team standings at 65 over-par followed by Florida Southern (+74) and Grand Canyon (+93).

The Vulcans’ top individual golfers through three rounds are senior Dianne Luke (tied for 10th) and junior Maria Lopez (tied for 17th). Luke shot a 79 in the third round while Lopez carded an 80. The four-round tourney concludes Saturday.

 


 

UPDATE: May 17, 2012 

The women’s golf team is tied for third place following the second round of the NCAA Division II National Championships at the Persimmon Ridge Golf Course in Louisville, Ky. 

Cal U is tied with Grand Valley (Mich.) State at 71 over-par. Nova Southeastern leads the team standings at 38 over par followed by Florida Southern (+53). Grand Canyon (Ariz) is fifth (+76).

The Vulcans’ top individual golfers through two rounds are senior Dianne Luke (tied for 5th) and junior Maria Lopez  (tied for 16th). Luke shot a 74 in the second round, which was the third best score among the 70-player field while Lopez carded her second consecutive round of 79. The four-round tourney concludes May 18-19.

The women's golf team is in seventh place following the first round of the NCAA Division II National Championships in Louisville, Ky.

Cal U ended the round at 45 over par, just four strokes away from fourth place.

Nova Southeastern University leads the team standings at 20 over par, followed by Florida Southern (+26), Central Oklahoma (+34) and Barry (+41).

The Vulcans' top individual golfers through the opening round were junior Maria Lopez (tied for 12th) and senior Dianne Luke (tied for 16th), who shot 79 and 80, respectively.

Three more rounds of play remain.

 


 

UPDATE: May 8, 2012

With a third-place finish at the NCAA D-II Super Region One Championship tournament, the women's golf team advances to the NCAA National Championships for the third consecutive season.

The team shot 310 — 22 strokes over par — today in the third round of the regional contest in Findlay, Ohio.

Cal U finished the regionals with a 68-over 932, behind only Indianapolis (911) and Grand Valley State (927) universities.

Senior Dianne Luke shot a 77 for the second consecutive round, finishing the tournament tied for fourth overall. Junior Maria Lopez, who led all Cal U golfers in the third round with a score of 76, finished ninth.

The Vulcans play next May 16-19 at Persimmon Ridge Golf Course in Louisville, Ky.

 


 

UPDATE II: May 7, 2012

The women's golf team finished the second round of the NCAA D-II Super Region One Championships in fourth place after shooting a 30-over 318 at Findlay Country Club in Ohio.

Senior Dianne Luke led the second-round individual scoring for the Vulcans with a score of 77. She is tied for third place overall.

The Vulcans (+46) trail Indianapolis (+31), Grand Valley State (+42) and Drury (+43) universities heading into the third and final round of competition, on May 8.

 


 

UPDATE: May 7, 2012

Cal U’s women’s golf team finished the first round of the NCAA Division II Super Region One Championships in third place after shooting a 16-over 304 at the Findlay Country Club in Ohio.

Senior Dianne Luke led the individual scoring on May 6 with a one-under-par 71.

The Vulcans trail co-leaders Indianapolis and Ashland universities by just four strokes heading into the final two rounds of competition.

 


 

ORIGINAL STORY

Cal U’s women’s golf team will compete at the NCAA Division II East Region Championships May 6-8 at the Findlay Country Club in Findlay, Ohio.

The Vulcans will be one of nine teams competing in the tournament. The top three teams, along with the three individuals not with a team, from each regional will advance to the NCAA Division II National Championships. The NCAA Championships will be held from May 16-19 at the Persimmon Ridge Golf Course in Louisville, Ky. 

Under the direction of head coach MerriLyn Gibbs, Cal U has advanced to the national tourney each of the past two seasons and finished a program-best seventh nationally a year ago.
