On Aug. 26, Cal U welcomes students to the fall semester with free concerts on the Convocation Center courtyard.

At 9:30 p.m., students can enjoy a performance by Donora, just back from a summer tour with a new release, Boyfriends, Girlfriends.

Opening for Donora at 8:30 p.m. is Tres Lads, whose Pittsburgh-area appearances include sets at the Rhythm House, the Majestic, and loads of local clubs.

The first 100 students to attend the Tres Lads/Donora show will receive a free hotdog and a cookie (one per person).

The party gets started from 1-4 p.m. Aug. 26, when three Cal U student bands perform in the Convocation Center courtyard. Don’t miss performances by these musicians:

  • Daeshawn “Lil D Da Prince” Ballard. He’s rocked hundreds of crowds, has thousands of followers on Twitter and thousands of views on YouTube. He also has music on iTunes for you to download.
  • Seamus Hutchens, performing with Nick Conti. A singer/songwriter from Pittsburgh, Hutchens is an open-mic favorite on campus who’s opened for notables such as Dave Pahanish and Kenny Rogers. His acoustic pop sound with original lyrics is truly unique and always fun.
  • Cameron Chambers, a member of the Young & Gifted Gospel Choir, Vulcanize and the Cal Singers. This talented singer lives for music and loves what he does!

All Cal U students may attend the free performances. Check the Events calendar at for more campus activities, and sign in on Facebook to see which of your friends are planning to be there!
