Update: March 27, 2015

Cal U’s women's basketball team tonight defeated California Baptist 86-69 to win the NCAA Division II National Championship at Sioux Falls, S.D.

This is the program’s second national title; the first was in 2004.

Cal U is the only PSAC women’s basketball team to win the NCAA Division II national title.

The Vulcans, under the guidance of fourth-year head coach Jess Strom, finished the season with a 32-4 overall record.

Update: March 25, 2015

Cal U’s women's basketball team tonight defeated Emporia State (Kan.) 51-46 in an NCAA Division II national semifinal game at Sioux Falls, S.D.

With the win, the Vulcans are now 31-4 overall.

On March 27, the Vulcans will play California Baptist for the national title. The championship game begins at 8 p.m. Eastern.

The game can be viewed live on CBS Sports Network, with radio coverage on WCAL 91.9 FM.


Update: March 24, 2015

In overtime, the women's basketball team today defeated Nova Southeastern (Fla.) 84-79 in an NCAA Division II national quarterfinal game at Sioux Falls, S.D.

The Vulcans are now 30-4 overall.

On March 25, the Vulcans will play Emporia State (Kan.) in a national semifinal game beginning at 7 p.m. (Eastern).

The game can be viewed live on CBS Sports Network, with radio coverage on WCAL 91.9 FM or online at wcal.calu.edu.

Fans in Washington County (Pa.) also can hear the game live on WJPA-FM (95.3) and online starting at 6:45 p.m.

Students in Cal U's main-campus residence halls and at Vulcan Village can tune in to Armstrong Cable channel 21-3 to watch the game at 7 p.m.


On March 24, the women's basketball team will play Nova Southeastern (Fla.) University in the NCAA Division II national quarterfinal game in Sioux Falls, S.D.

WCAL, the campus radio station, will be in Sioux Falls to broadcast the Elite Eight game LIVE at 1 p.m. Eastern time.

Cal U's women's basketball team defeated Bloomsburg 72-69 in overtime to win the championship game of the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional at Hamer Hall on March 16. 

The Vulcans are now 29-4 overall. 

On March 24, the Vulcans will play Nova Southeastern (Fla.) University in a national quarterfinal game in Sioux Falls, S.D.


Update: March 16:

The Vulcan host Bloomsburg for the regional championship at 7 p.m. tonight in Hamer Hall.

The Cal U women’s basketball team is a finalist in the WBCA National Russell Athletic “Together We R” Team Award.

Cal U's women's basketball team defeated West Liberty 69-64 in the semifinals of the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional at Hamer Hall on March 14. 

The Vulcans are now 28-4 overall.

On March 16, the Vulcans will host Bloomsburg for the regional championship beginning  at 7 p.m.


Update: March 13, 2015

Cal U's women's basketball team defeated Virginia State 86-75 in the first round of the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional at Hamer Hall on March 13.

The Vulcans are now 27-4 overall.

On March 14, the Vulcans will play West Liberty in a regional semifinal beginning at 7:30 p.m. Bloomsburg will play Shepherd in the 5 p.m. semifinal.

Cal U’s PSAC champion women’s basketball team has earned the top seed and will host the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional March 13, 14 and 16 in Hamer Hall.

Under the direction of fourth-year head coach Jess Strom, the Vulcans (26-4) will play eighth seed Virginia State (20-9) at 7:30 p.m. March 13.

In other first-round games on March 13, third-seeded Bloomsburg (24-4) will play sixth-seeded Gannon (21-7) at noon, followed by second-seeded IUP (25-3) facing seventh-seeded Shepherd (21-9) at 2:30 p.m. Fourth-seeded West Chester (24-5) plays fifth-seeded West Liberty (23-8) at 5 p.m.

The Atlantic Regional semifinal games will be at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. March 14, with the championship game set for 7 p.m. March 16.

Cal U is making its 12th NCAA Division II Tournament Appearance in 14 years. The Vulcans have won four NCAA Regional championships, and they took the NCAA Division II national title in 2004.

Regionals feature 9 Pennsylvania schools

Nine universities from Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education — including the top-seeded women’s team from Cal U — will compete this weekend at the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional basketball championships.
