Scholarships E-K

EBERLY FAMILY SCHOLARSHIPS:These renewable scholarships are awarded to incoming freshmen who have demonstrated academic promise and reside in Fayette County. The scholarship value is up to full tuition for an academic year. Recipients must progress each year and maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA to renew the scholarship each year.

Emelson Theatre and Dance Scholarship is awarded to an outstanding freshman, sophomore, junior or senior student enrolled full-time at California University who is majoring in Theater or Dance. 

Emeriti Faculty Association Academic Scholarship is awarded to an incoming freshman who has achieved SAT scores of 1100 (combined Math and Verbal).  

Faculty Scholarship is awarded to an incoming freshman that is enrolled as a degree seeking full-time student at California University.  Applicants must possess a minimum combined SAT score above 1200 and a 3.6 high school GPA. Meet this year's Faculty Scholarship recipient

First Lady Scholarship is awarded to an upper-class female who has distinguished herself with a 3.0 or better GPA.  Preference is given to students who have demonstrated a need for financial assistance.

William R. Finn II Scholarship is awarded to students who have distinguished themselves with a 3.5 GPA.  Preference will be given to students who demonstrate financial need.

DR. CALVIN FLEMING SCHOLARSHIP: This scholarship is awarded to an outstanding student majoring in the natural or physical sciences with a preferred composite SAT score of 1200. Interested students should contact the Physical Science Department. (724-938-4147).

JEAN FLEMING MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP: Scholarships are awarded to one student from each undergraduate level (freshman, sophomore, junior, senior) enrolled at California University of Pennsylvania. Recipients must be graduates of Albert Gallatin Area Senior High School. Qualified students must have distinguished themselves with a 3.0 GPA. Renewal of the scholarship is contingent upon the student's maintaining a 3.0 GPA. Preference will be given to those students with a demonstrated financial need.

Foundation & Alumni 2004 Scholarship is awarded to full time undergraduate juniors or seniors who have distinguished themselves with at least a 3.0 GPA.  Preference will be given to students demonstrating exemplary leadership skills and financial need.

Foundation for California University Endowed Scholarship is awarded to an upper class student with a minimum grade point average of 3.0.  Student must also demonstrate financial need.

RUTH F. FREEMAN & CLARA O. FREEMAN SCHOLARSHIP FUND: Scholarships are awarded annually to students enrolled or planning to enroll in the School of Education. All applicants must maintain a 3.0 GPA, and preference will be given to those students who have a demonstrated need. Interested students should contact the School of Education.

MILDRED SWIFT FUNK SCHOLARSHIP: Scholarships are awarded annually to deserving students who are single mothers. Qualified students must have distinguished themselves with a 2.5 GPA or higher. Preference will be given to those with demonstrated financial need.

ARTHUR & MILLICENT GABRIEL COMPUTER SCIENCE/INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SCHOLARSHIP: This scholarship is awarded to an outstanding freshman enrolled in computer science/information technology. Qualified students must have distinguished themselves with an outstanding academic record and high SAT scores. Interested students will be asked to write a one-page essay explaining their desire to attend California University and major in computer science/information technology. Interested students should contact the Mathematics and Computer Sciences Department.

Arthur and Millicent Gabriel Merit Award is awarded to a graduating senior in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science.  Qualified students must also have distinguished themselves with outstanding grades, good character and high moral standards. 

President’s Gala Scholarship Endowment is awarded to an outstanding student enrolled full-time at California University.  Students must also have distinguished themselves with a 3.0 GPA.

Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Ganassi Scholarship is awarded to a sophomore, junior, senior or graduate student from Monessen, Pennsylvania.  Students must also have distinguished themselves with a 3.0 GPA.

Anette D. Ganassi Scholarship is awarded to a sophomore, junior, senior or graduate student from Monessen, Pennsylvania.  Qualified students must have distinguished themselves with a GPA of 3.0.

Alberta Grace George Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a non-traditional female student majoring in art education with a minimum GPA of 3.0.  Preference will be given to students who demonstrate financial need.

Charles A. Gismondi Baseball Scholarship is awarded to an incoming freshman athlete with a GPA of at least 3.0.  Preference will be given to a student athlete in a high school in Washington or Fayette County who has promoted good citizenship through community service.

Olga Yetsconish Grazzini Scholarship is awarded to a student in Fayette, Washington, or Westmoreland County with a high school grade point average of 3.0 and SAT score of at least 1000.  Preference will be given to a student in the College of Education and Human Services who demonstrates financial need.

Coach J. Budd Grebb Award is given to an undergraduate student who plays football, basketball, or baseball and who has a GPA of at least 2.0.  Preference will be given to students who demonstrate financial need.

Kenny Hager Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a junior or senior student majoring in Graphic Communications with a "B" average.  The student must demonstrate financial need.

Carol Hallam Scholarship is awarded to an academically talented junior or senior who has demonstrated financial need.  First preference is given to pre-medical/biology students and second preference is given to a student in a health care related major.

Bill & David W. Hambacher Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a full-time senior psychology major who has performed community service and who intends to go on to graduate school.  Qualified students should have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and have demonstrated financial need.

DEBRA F. HARDY SCHOLARSHIP: This annual, renewable scholarship is awarded to a freshman from Bentworth High School. The scholarship value is up to full tuition for an academic year. The scholarship is based on academic performance and financial need. Each recipient must maintain sufficient academic progress to continue receiving the award.

Debra & Joseph Hardy Scholarship Fund for Excellence in the Study of Political Science is awarded to a junior or senior Political Science student who has achieved a 3.0 GPA.  Preference will be given to students who demonstrate financial need. 

Debra & Joseph Hardy Baseball Award is awarded to a full-time undergraduate baseball player who has achieved outstanding academic records and a 3.0 GPA.  Student should be committed to providing service to the community and demonstrate an ability to contribute to the overall success of the team.

Frank Harhay Football Scholarship is awarded to a member of the University football team in good standing.  Preference will be given to students who demonstrate financial need.

NORMAN & ELLEN HASBROUCK Family Honors Scholarship: Consideration for this scholarship is given to all full-time undergraduate students enrolled or planning to enroll at the University who have achieved outstanding academic records and who are enrolled in the Honors Program at California University. Preference will be given to students from Beth Center, California Area, Corry Area and Greenville Area high schools. Incoming freshmen must have achieved a 1200 SAT score and a 3.75 GPA.

Ellen and Norman Hasbrouck Family Bethlehem Center School District Scholarship Fund is awarded to graduates of Bethlehem Center High School who have a minimum GPA of 3.0. 

Norman and Ellen Hasbrouck Family California School District Scholarship Fund is awarded to graduates of California High School who have a minimum GPA of 3.0. 

BLANCE REBECCA HEATH ELEMENTARY EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP FUND: Scholarships will be awarded annually to elementary education majors with a high school GPA of 3.0 and an SAT combined minimum score of 1000. Preference is given to any such student who has a demonstrated financial need. Interested students should contact the School of Education.

Dr. Jay D. Helsel '59 Applied Engineering and Technology Endowed Scholarship is awarded to a freshman student majoring in an academic program in the Department of Applied Engineering and Technology.  Student should have a high school GPA of 3.0 and combined SAT score of at least 1000 for reading and math.   

J. HELSEL FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP: This annual scholarship is awarded to full-time students who have distinguished themselves with a high school GPA of 3.0 and an SAT combined minimum score of 1000.

Joan L. Helsel University Band Endowed Scholarship is awarded to an entering freshman who has distinguished themselves with a GPA of at least 3.0 and combined SAT score of at least 1000.  The student must also be an active member of the Cal U Band. 

Joy M. Helsel Social Fraternity/Sorority Scholarship is awarded to a junior or senior student who has distinguished themselves with a GPA of 3.25 or higher.  Preference will be given to students who are members in good standing with a California University recognized social fraternity or sorority and have demonstrated financial need.

RAY HELTERBRAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP BY CHERYL HELTERBRAN & GREGORY HAND: This annual scholarship is awarded to full-time undergraduate students who have distinguished themselves with a GPA of 3.5 or better. Incoming freshman must have an SAT score of 1200 or better. Students should be the first in their immediate family to attend a college or University. Preference is given to those students with a demonstrated financial need. MARJORIE HENSHAW HOLMAN AWARD: This annual, non-renewable scholarship is awarded to a full-time freshman who meets the following criteria: (1) majoring in elementary education; (2) has a GPA of 3.0 or higher; and (3) is a graduate of Uniontown Area High School.

BILL HEPNER SCHOLARSHIP: This scholarship is awarded annually to undergraduate students enrolled at California University of Pennsylvania. Scholarships are awarded to members of the California University football team.

Jesse G. Hereda Honors Scholarship is awarded to students enrolled in the University Honors Program.  Qualified students must also have distinguished themselves with a 3.25 GPA. Preference will be given to any such student who has demonstrated a need for financial assistance. 

Francis J. Herron Endowed Scholarship is awarded to a student who is a member of the University football team and has earned a GPA of 2.5.  Preference will be given to students who demonstrate financial need.

The Marjorie Henshaw Holman Award is awarded to an incoming freshman student majoring in Elementary Education, who graduated from Uniontown High School with at least a 3.0 GPA. 

Eleanore C. Hibbs ’38 Endowed Fund is awarded to students majoring in English Education Certification 7-12 (Secondary English).  Recipients must also have distinguished themselves with a 3.0 GPA. Preference will be given to students who have demonstrated a need for financial assistance.

Highmark Health Sciences Scholarship Fund is awarded to outstanding students pursuing a degree in any of the University’s health sciences programs.

W. Byron Holman ’40 Honors Scholarship is awarded to sophomore students who are enrolled in good standing in the University Honors Program.  Preference will be given to students who represent the University as an athlete in any inter-collegiate varsity sport with a preference for Tennis team members.

THE OREN HOLMAN SCHOLARSHIP: This renewable scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate student based on academic achievement and financial need.

Professor Merrell E. Holman ’42 Honors Scholarship is awarded to sophomores who are majoring in Elementary/Early Childhood Education and are in good standing in the University Honors Program.  Preference has been given to those students who have demonstrated a need for financial assistance and a willingness and ability to be of service to others and this country.

William J. & Mary Homer Scholarship is awarded to a female student who is classified as a single mother and has achieved sophomore status.  Qualified students must have distinguished themselves with a GPA of 2.5 or higher and cannot have been on academic probation at any time at California University. 

COACH JOE HOWARD MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP: Scholarships are awarded annually to a sophomore, junior or senior football player. Recipients must have displayed athletic ability, academic excellence and strong moral development.

JAMES A. HUGHES MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP: This renewable scholarship is awarded to full-time undergraduate students who demonstrate financial need and graduated from a public high school in the School District of Philadelphia. Applicants must submit a completed James A. Hughes Memorial Scholarship application, a written reference from a teacher, faculty member or counselor who knows the student well, and a 250-word essay on why the student feels he or she is deserving of the scholarship. The Financial Aid Office must receive the completed application package no later than April 1. The scholarship can be renewed providing funds are available and the student continues to be full time with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 and in good standing with the University.

The Norval E. Hutchinson and Mildred Hutchinson Memorial Fund is awarded to full-time undergraduate students with at least a 3.0 GPA 

INDUSTRIAL ARTS AND TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION ALUMNI SOCIETY SCHOLARSHIP: Scholarships are awarded annually to technology education students. Scholarships are renewable for a maximum of three years provided minimum qualifications are met. Recipients can be either entering or current technology education majors. Entering students must have a high school GPA of 3.0 or higher and an SAT score of at least 1000. Current students must maintain a 3.0 GPA and meet all the requirements for admission to Teacher Education.

DELILA C. JENKINS SCHOLARSHIP: This renewable scholarship is awarded to freshman education majors demonstrating financial need. The scholarship value is up to full tuition for an academic year. Each recipient must maintain satisfactory academic progress in order to continue receiving the award.

Ronald "Bunny" Johns Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a student athlete who is a member of the University football team.  Student must have a minimum GPA of 3.0.  Preference will be given to a student of good character who has demonstrated financial need.

MICHAEL KARA SCHOLARSHIP: This annual, non-renewable scholarship is awarded to a full-time freshman who graduated from Belle Vernon Area High School. First preference is given to students who come from a foster home. Students considered for this scholarship must demonstrate high moral character, a respect for their teachers and elders, involvement in the community, and self-reliance as demonstrated by holding a job to help pay for their own education or to assist with providing for their family. The guidance counselor of Belle Vernon Area High School forwards recommendations to the Financial Aid Office for selection.

Karnash/Mandell Scholarship Fund is awarded to a student majoring in Business with a 3.0 GPA.  Preference will be given to students who demonstrate financial need.

CHARLES & MARY LOU KELLER ROTARY SCHOLARSHIP AND SERVICE FUND: This annual scholarship is awarded to a student based on academic achievement and financial need. Priority is given to a student whose parents or grandparents were Rotarians from District 733, or to a student who participated in Rotary youth-related programs such as Interact, Rotaract or youth exchange. If no applicant meets either of the Rotarian criteria, priority consideration is given to non-traditional students. Click here to download a Scholarship Application.

MICHAEL KELLER MEMORIAL AWARD FOR NON-TRADITIONAL STUDENTS: This annual, non-renewable scholarship is awarded to a non-traditional student who is at least 30 years old and has attained at least a sophomore status. This scholarship is based on academic performance (3.0 GPA). Interested students must provide a letter of application to the Financial Aid Office by April 1 indicating educational and career goals, how they successfully manage responsibilities that exist beyond academics, and how this award will be beneficial to their long-range plans. GARY AND MIDGE KENNEDY SCHOLARSHIP: These scholarships are awarded annually to juniors enrolled in the elementary education program. Qualified students must have distinguished themselves with a GPA of 3.5 or higher. Scholarships should be awarded to members of the men's or women's track, cross-country or basketball teams.

Paul J. Killius, Jr. Special Education Scholarship is awarded to a student majoring in Special Education with an outstanding academic record who also has a demonstrated need for financial assistance.

Stan and Michelle Komacek Scholarship is awarded to an outstanding junior or senior enrolled full-time at California University and majoring in Technology Education and/or Elementary Education. Preference has been given to single parent students who have demonstrated a need for financial assistance to continue their education.

Andrew Kovach Scholarship is awarded to an incoming freshman student from Fayette County who is majoring in Technology Education with a high school GPA of at least 2.5. 

The John E. and Barbara Krivda Memorial Scholarship is awarded to an outstanding student enrolled at California University of Pennsylvania.  Recipients must have distinguished themselves with a 3.5 GPA.

Donnella & Dan R. Kraft Scholarship is awarded to a freshman student enrolled full-time at California University.  Student must be a graduate of Belle Vernon High School and demonstrate financial need.
