Series of continuing education programs for attorneys and other legal professionals will be held April 26 and 27 at Cal U's Southpointe Center in Canonsburg, Pa.

Political parties are battling over Pennsylvania's congressional district map -- but how do the courts address concerns about voting districts drawn along racial and political lines?

Attorney Barbara J. Shah, one of the plaintiffs in a recent federal lawsuit, discusses Gerrymandering and Its Effect on American Politics April 27 in a seminar presented by the Institute for Law and Public Policy at California University of Pennsylvania.

Shah's talk is one of a series of continuing education programs for attorneys and other legal professionals. All seminars are held April 26 and 27 at Cal U's Southpointe Center, 135 Technology Drive, Canonsburg, PA. Each is approved for Pennsylvania Continuing Legal Education (PACLE) credits.

Veteran Disability Law: A Primer — 9 a.m.-12:15 p.m. April 26, 2018
Attorney James P. Coletta, of Schmitt and Coletta PC, provides an overview of disability laws as they apply to veterans. He addresses benefits, claim requirements and appeals, along with claims relating specifically to Agent Orange, PTSD and chronic illness. PACLE approved: 2 substantive and 1 ethics credits

Presented by attorneys Christian Antkowiak and Erin J. McLaughlin, of Buchanan Ingersoll and Rooney, the seminar offers insights into current labor and employment trends. • Gerrymandering and Its Effect on American Politics: The Fight Against Gerrymandering — 1-4:15 p.m. April 27, 2018
Speaking from an anti-gerrymandering perspective, attorney Barbara J. Shah, of Shah Law Group PC, discusses the controversial issue of racial and political gerrymandering. Topics include technology and gerrymandered boundaries, the role of the courts, anti-gerrymandering lawsuits and potential resolutions. PACLE approved: 3 substantive credits

The Institute for Law and Public Policy at Cal U also offers a 5-day law enforcement training program in Advanced Crime Science Investigation from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. May 14-18 at the Allegheny County Police Training Academy in Allison Park, Pa.

Professionals who complete the course can earn a California University certificate in Applied Forensic Science. The certificate demonstrates proficiency in forensic science, which can be an asset when a law enforcement officer is called upon to testify in court.
