President's Message

Reflecting on 2018 with gratitude and pride.

president's message

To every member of our Cal U community:

As the fall semester ends, I’m looking back on 2018 with gratitude and pride. As the old song says, “It was a very good year.”

After months of work, we dedicated the new Rutledge Institute preschool facility. Coover Hall renovations are nearing completion, and we are exploring designs for a new science building.

Thanks to many dedicated faculty, our University introduced more than two dozen new programs in high-demand fields. This fall we welcomed the largest freshman class since 2014, and this evening our University will award the first doctoral degrees in its history.

These are just a few of our 2018 milestones.

Many of the year’s bright spots are harder to measure, but no less important.

I’ve been impressed by the positive energy of our student leaders, whose commitment to service has made a real difference for Cal U and our local community.

I see our staff going above and beyond to meet the needs of our students. I appreciate the spirit of shared purpose that has begun to permeate our campus, paving the way for more effective collaboration. And always, I value the loyal alumni, friends and colleagues who make our University such a special place.

I wish you all a holiday season filled with peace and happiness. Please know that I appreciate the progress we have made together this year, and I look forward to accomplishing great things with you in the year ahead.

With warmest wishes,

Geraldine M. Jones
University President
